Magical Item - Ring Of The Pretender
ringofthepretender.jpg

This two-finger gold ring is stylized to look like an unfurled scroll rolling back on itself and etched with arcane runes. It shrinks and grows to fit creatures ranging in size from large to tiny.

This ring and others like it were created in ancient times by powerful wizards who would award them to servants acting in their name. Later, several rings of this type were taken off the corpses of the band known as the Arcane Cuckoos, who pretending to be wizards, took over large swaths of the islands making up the Herzogs Imperial Alliance.

Found on the corpse of the imp Zotzpotz, the ring was later traded to Kelendek the Sharp for several items.

The Ring of the Pretender has a limited sentience communicating with the wearer upon attunement what spells it can store and how many (and which kinds are left). It allows the wearer to cast the stored spells as a standard action (as activating any magical item). Once cast from the ring the spells remain gone until re-cast into the ring. The spells can be replaced by any attuned caster wearing the ring using an arcane source (i.e. no divine magic), but regardless of the caster level the spells are limited in level to what they were set at upon the creation of the ring (i.e. they can be stored at a lower level, but not a higher one). All the spells in this ring are cast at 7th level.

The Ring of Pretender can store two of each of the following spells (all at 7th level):

  • Charm Person
  • Dancing Lights
  • Darkness
  • Minor Illusion
  • Phantasmal Force
